Briefly, as a child, I had an imaginary friend, Bramble Richard 

Now, nearly seventy years later, I have rediscovered him

Until a few years ago, I might have said I was a formalist, working in traditional media.


But I have since found other excitements, although I still love to lose myself: in a material; in questions of weight, volume, movement and stress; rhythm and tension .  .  . simple things

Prompted by an intriguing ‘Obstruction’ from Jane Fairhurst, as part of the GMCA bOlder programme, in our upcoming show at Castlefield Gallery, I join forces with my old friend to feel the difference
