I like to breath life into inert matter
It started with clay, then wax and, more recently, plaster
A few years ago, I woke up to the potential of ordinary things and I became attracted to the challenge of using what might otherwise have been discarded
Sometimes, I mould plaster in these things. Then I work the resulting piece as though it were stone, enjoying the play of light and shade on whiteness
I also like to work with a place, making it my own; ideally with the slightest of changes
Or I might detect signs of life in cracks in the pavings or in a patchwork of tarmac repairs or a heap of pipes in the street
There'll be other things: a strong feeling; an idea; a commission. Or I might just play about
But movement, rhythm and tension are never far away, hinting at what it is to be alive
